How we set a fixed fee

Fees
By Daniel Ashworth

The most common question at a first call is not about the law. It is “what will this cost?” Here is how we answer it.

We listen first, then we quote

The first call is free and has no time limit that matters. We need to understand what has happened before we can price it honestly. A quote given in the first five minutes is a guess.

The quote is in writing within 24 hours

You get a one-page document: what we will do, what it will cost, what is not included and how long it should take. You sign it, or you do not. Nothing is charged until you say go.

If the scope changes, the quote changes first

Matters evolve. The other side does something unexpected, or a document turns up. When that happens we tell you what has changed and what it means for the price before we do the extra work. You will never open a bill you were not warned about.

Where a fixed fee is not possible

Some disputes cannot be priced at the start. For those we agree an hourly rate and a cap, and you can ask for the running total at any time.

That is the whole system. It is simple because it has to be.
